Deleting your account
Deleting your Forkboard account is permanent, and it's something you do yourself — from the web or the phone app, with no request to us required. This page covers where the control lives, exactly what happens when you use it, what we keep afterward and for how long, and how to delete your account if you've lost access and can't sign in.
Before you delete: export a copy
Deletion is irreversible and takes your data with it, so if you want to keep anything, download it first. From Settings, then Account, choose Download my data to get a single forkboard-data-export.json covering your account and every household you belong to. Once the account is gone, there's no export left to run.
Delete your account on the web
- Sign in at my.forkboard.app.
- Open Settings, then Account.
- Find the Delete account control near the bottom of the page.
- Confirm in the dialog. Your account is removed and you're signed out of every device.
Delete your account in the app
- Open the Forkboard app and go to the Account tab.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm on the prompt. The app removes your account and returns you to the sign-in screen.
What gets deleted
Deleting removes you and, when you're the only person in your household, the household and everything in it:
- Your user record, your name, and the email you signed in with.
- The ways you signed in — your Google and Apple links — and any linked Apple sign-in is revoked at Apple.
- Your sessions, so every signed-in device is logged out.
- If you're the sole member of your household: its plans, preferences, per-member taste, ratings, meal reports, pantry, custom meals, and grocery data.
- Any active subscription is cancelled first, and refunded under the same rules as a normal cancellation.
One guardrail protects shared boards. If you own a household that still has other members, deletion is blocked until you remove them or hand ownership to someone else — so a shared board never vanishes out from under the people still using it.
What we keep, and for how long
The removal itself is immediate. A small amount of data outlives it by necessity, in line with our Privacy Policy: within about 30 days we delete or anonymize your personal data, with two deliberate exceptions. Records we're legally required to keep — billing and tax history, for example — are retained longer. And an append-only audit log of sensitive actions, such as account deletions and billing changes, is kept for security and fraud prevention; its entries hold only identifiers and event metadata, never your name, email, or contact details.
If you can't sign in
The in-app control needs you to be signed in. If you've lost access to your account and can't reach it, email privacy@forkboard.app from the address on the account and we'll delete the account and its data for you. This gets you the same deletion — it's simply the path for when you can't get in yourself.
During the free trial there's nothing to cancel separately — it takes no card, so no subscription is attached. Deleting during a trial simply removes the account.
